Roaring Forties, Amiran Champions and Forties Favourites were among the big winners during day two of the tenth edition of the Diani Beach Touch Rugby tournament being played at Forty Thieves Bar and Restaurant.
The three sides, comprising of players from the host club, South Coast Pirates, made the most out of the day two action as they reached the last sixteen stage of the three day tournament which is set to conclude on Sunday, July 29.
Having won their opening round of matches on Friday night, Roaring Forties were pegged back by Le Gauloise Blanc whom they drew 2-2 against each other before roaring back with a 7-0 win against BT Tagamama’s. Needing only one more win to advance to the quarters the following day, Roaring Forties’ match winning ability was put into doubt when they fell 1-0 to Amiran Champions. However, they returned to winning ways following a 1-0 win over Safaricom II to confirm their place in the main cup quarters.
Amiran Champions, made up of players who have come through the SCP academy program, were also unlucky to lose only a single match, against Le Gauloise Blanc whom they lost to 3-1. Blanc, set to meet BATUK in the last 16 on Sunday, also defeated Unsullied pas deux 2-0 in their final pool match of the day.
In Pool B, Forties Favourites will be joined by tournament regulars Bollore Pumas’, BATUK, Les Gauloise Rouge in the cup quarters as the top four sides from Pool B. Forties Favourites and Amiran Champions will serve up a mouth-watering knockout tie in the pick of the quarter finals while BATUK are set to meet Les Gauloise Blanc as Bollore Pumas square it out with Safaricom II and Les Gauloise Rouge ready for Amazing Forties.
Karen Crusaders, Mafisii, Untouchables and Barbarians Mogadishu Pirates also secured their places in the last sixteen and have been scheduled to play against Pool D representatives Pole Climbers, Unsullied, Shajanand Holdings and Mogadishu Pirates respectively.
