Charlie Tendwa was named on 4th July 2019 in the squad to face Uganda in the Elgon Cup in Kampala. Fantastic news for Charlie and for the Pirates. This could be the first ever Pirate to play for his country at senior level. Charlie did play for the U19’s. Many congratulations Charlie, you’ve worked hard for this and deserve your chance. Now let’s get more Pirates competing at the top level!
Here are photos from the action in Kampala.
Charlie Tendwa made history by becoming the first South Coast Pirates player to represent his country at senior level against Uganda in the Elgon Cup in Kampala. Kenya won the fixture 16:5.
Charlie, who recently turned 22, had played for Kenya in the U19's in Namibia and Madagascar. He's a product of the South Coast Pirates Academy which sends coaches to local schools to train boys and girls in the basic rugby skills. Now Charlie is a coach visiting the schools. We are tremendously proud of him and hope he'll be the first of many to come through the youth programme into the national team
