Picking an injury while training for the new season is certainly frustrating for any player. But SCP backline player Habib Zuga isn’t letting a knee injury aggravated during a training session keep him away from the rest of the players as the new season continues to draw closer each day.
The long serving SCP midfielder and fullback has been an ever-present figure during preseason training and while he may be unable to train, Zuga has been on the side lines sharing his knowledge to other backline players as he continues to recover from the niggling knee injury.
Confirmed by the club’s head coach Lawrence Buyachi as helping with the backs since he is unable to play at the moment, Zuga has wasted no time in making an impact in his new role as was depicted during the 27-14 preseason friendly win against Malindi on October 5th. Pirates run in five tries to Malindi’s two and with Buyachi unavailable for that trip to Malindi, Zuga confidently paraded the dugout as Pirates got off the mark in our opening preseason friendly.
‘’First of all I would like to thank the head coach Lawi, team manager Amiani (Kelvin) and fellow teammates for believing in me. Considering the fact that I am nursing a knee injury, I can still be useful to the club by sharing my ideas and in strengthening the backline department.’’ said Zuga
An unknown return date has been set for Zuga who admits to being frustrated when watching the other lads go through their paces in training. With the new season kicking off on November 17th with a showdown against Mombasa RFC, Zuga’s availability for the fixture still remains a doubt but the player himself is pointing towards the bright side of the situation.
‘’It’s really tough watching from the side lines as the others play. Any player would love to be on the pitch too doing what they do best but it’s also a way of keeping up with all the latest drills and training instructions that the head coach brings to the club.’’ he uttered
Pirates face Mombasa RFC in the club’s second preseason friendly on Saturday before fixtures against Pwani Sharks and later Technical University of Mombasa as outlined in our preseason schedule.
