South Coast Pirates are set for a return to action when the Championship league resumes following the end of year break.
Pirates ended the previous year with an emphatic 31-24 win over Catholic Monks and as the competition returns, the team will be looking to build on its only victory so far by posting similar results when they come up against Ngong, JKUAT and Mean Machine in the month of January.
In readiness for a taxing jschedule which involves two away trips before a reversal tie against Mean Machine, the team has been in training since the opening week of the new year and as the first assignment against Ngong RFC approaches, the message shared amongst the players in training points towards a successful opening month of the year.
After standing in for club captain Derrick Mambili during the win over Monks, Charles Okwemba has lifted the lid on the immediate target set for the playing unit to achieve.
"We have to win the upcoming game so as to open the year with a victory." said Okwemba
"A successful January will also put us in a good place on the table as we look to qualify for the playoffs at the end of the season." he added
Pirates are still tied in the bottom half of the table but scrumhalf James Mnala, along with echoing Okwemba's sentiments also called for belief in achieving the long term goal of qualifying for the playoffs.
"We need to believe we can still make it," the scrumhalf asserted
"The players already know what's happening and are coming back for the sessions.
"This month we want to mostly win all the games that we are going to play. We also want to have everyone in the house at least know all the plays and everything that's happening in training before we meet Ngong." he said
