This opening game of the season will be a tough one as Monks are aiming for promotion to the Kenya Cup. It’ll certainly be an interesting match considering that we have played Monks several times before and both teams have an insight into each other’s style of play.
We are expecting them to be solid in the scrums and the mauls. Our defence will have to be on toes because Monks will come and play a tight game and will try to slow the game down. We have a strong squad with a good blend of experience and youth. 3 players will be making their debut for Pirates - the experienced Henry Rhino at number one, 19 year old Collins Kabayo from our youth programme at number 8 and coach Lawrence Buyachi will be on the bench.
The last time Monks visited us we managed to secure a win plus bonus point. This should motivate the Pirates to believe in themselves and hopefully get off to a winning start.
