South Coast Pirates can confirm that the club will not be involved any fixture until the new Championship season begins on November 17th.
Pirates have played three preseason matches and as the opening league fixture against Catholic Monks continues to draw closer, the team is scheduled to continue with its normal preseason training routines under the head coach Lawrence Buyachi .
Buyachi will make his Championship managerial debut when Monks arrive in Ukunda on 17th and has already overseen several matches in which the club has been involved in. Apart from coaching SCP during the national sevens circuit at Machakos and Mombasa, the former Nakuru RFC loose forward has also put together teams to face Malindi RFC and most recently our rivals Mombasa for the George Barbour Memorial Cup.
Pirates were victorious in our opening preseason clash, winning 27-14 against Malindi RFC on October 5th. Five tries were scored in this encounter; Kelvin Amiani touching down twice with the remaining three being scored by Benjamin Luta, Stephen Bosire and Jacob Adera. Humphrey Lugara contributed an extra two points from one conversion as SCP held on to win the match played at Malindi High School.
In the George Barbour Memorial Cup, Mombasa RFC were crowned the inaugural champions following a 33-24 aggregate score. Following the untimely demise of SCP founding father and chairman George Barbour, both clubs reached an agreement where annual editions will be held in honour of the departed Barbour and it was Mombasa who claimed the first edition on October 27th following a 20-14 second leg victory at Ukunda Showground.
During the defeat, midfielder Charles Tendwa scored our two tries with Phillip Mbisi and Hajj Mohammed adding a conversion each. Tendwa was also our sole try scorer during the first leg where Mombasa won 13-10 and shared points with Sudi Hussein who managed the conversion to his try as well as a penalty.
