After an illustrious 16-year career in rugby, South Coast Pirates 8th man David Oluoch Watiko has decided to hang up his boots. The announcement comes following a monumental victory last Saturday, where Watiko, helped SC Pirates secure a historic win over Daystar Falcons RFC, with a resounding scoreline of 30-15 at the Seacrest grounds, Diani.

This triumph not only marked a significant milestone for the team but also propelled them to gain promotion to the prestigious Kenya Cup league for the first time, amidst an electrifying atmosphere at the Seacrest grounds.Watiko started his rugby career in 2008 at Mwamba RFC and donned the Black Mwamba colors for 13 years before joining Pirates in 2021.

His contributions to SC Pirates and the broader rugby fraternity have left an indelible mark, earning him admiration and respect from teammates, opponents, and fans alike.

Speaking to the club media after Saturday’s win, Watiko termed the pirates’ win as a ‘dream achieved’.

“After 16 years of service, am grateful for every achievement I have made, my dream has been achieved, I aimed to put pirates to Kenya Cup and it’s here, I’ll forever remain indebted to Pirates ” he offered.
