THe 2024/25 Kenya Cup regular season reaches a thrilling conclusion this weekend, with South Coast Pirates staring at a defining moment in their debut campaign. Anchored at the bottom of the table with just nine points, the ‘Maharamia’ must produce a flawless performance to keep their survival hopes alive.

Their task is straightforward but daunting, secure a bonus-point victory against Menengai Oilers and pray that other results work in their favor.

It has been a baptism of fire for the Diani-based side in Kenya’s premier rugby competition. Our only triumphs came at home against Strathmore Leos (15-8) and Nakuru RFC (17-0). But with relegation looming large, Pirates must now summon every ounce of resilience for their ultimate test.

Blocking their path is an Oilers outfit eager to bounce back from back-to-back defeats against title contenders KCB (29-27) and Kabras (20-14). Despite the setbacks, Oilers remain comfortably in third place with 43 points and will be keen to regain momentum heading into the playoffs.

Pirates head coach Kevin Amiani, speaking to club media, emphasized the magnitude of the encounter:

“This is our biggest game of the season. We understand the stakes, and the boys are prepared to fight for survival. We respect Oilers, but this is about proving that we belong in the Kenya Cup.”

With home support behind them, Pirates will look to turn Diani into a fortress one last time. However, against an experienced Oilers side, sheer determination won’t be enough—they must be clinical, disciplined, and ruthless.

Elsewhere, the relegation battle remains intense, with Strathmore Leos, Kisumu RFC, and Mwamba also fighting to avoid the drop. Strathmore and Kisumu are level on 13 points in ninth place, while Mwamba sits just behind with 12 points.

Pirates host Oilers this Saturday at the iconic Estadio de Seacrest from 3 P. M.

For Pirates, this is their moment of truth. Will they pull off a great escape, or will their Kenya Cup journey come to a heartbreaking end?
